The Only Way to Done is Doing

An Update on the Progress of my Book (and Next Skillshare Class)

I am the slowest writer ever. Since I launched my last class on Skillshare in late August, I have been busy writing and re-writing my next big project. What started as a book concept (my big goal for 2021) will for now be written as a Skillshare class, since this is a medium I am much more experienced in — and where I actually have an audience.

If you’ve been following me here for a while, you might know that the class is going to be about the illustration process. I know this subject backwards and forward. But figuring out the most salient way to teach this has been — and continues to be — my biggest challenge.

As part of my research, I bought a few books on the topic of becoming and working as an illustrator. Namely, “Becoming a Successful Illustrator” by Brazell and Davies, and “How to Be an Illustrator” by Darrel Rees. Both books are packed with useful information and are written by established experts in the industry. As guides to a very complex industry, they are excellent resources and I highly recommend them.

Becoming a Successful Illustrator by Derek Brazell and Jo Davies. A great book but leaves my topic virtually untouched. Opportunity knocks.
