Distracted! Gonna Tap Out!
It is Friday. Last Friday, I never ended up posting. I promised myself I would post something today. But I am so distracted. We have electricians drilling and sawing and making a lot of noise this morning (we are undergoing renovations).
I have been writing for over two hours. I have a good start to a post, but it’s not coming together quite as I’d hoped. I need another couple days with this one. I’m asking for your grace as I give this one the space it seems to be demanding.
Yesterday’s to-do list was never fully completed. I’m afraid that will happen again today.
I’m letting my goal of a full article go today. But, here I am, showing up, writing something, even if a small, nothing-post.
The article I was writing was about the elements of the creative process. Not the steps, the how-to part, but the more abstract things the creative process needs to thrive. These are things like structure, responsibility, and leadership. I name six of these, and then describe how they relate to the creative process. The overarching idea is that beyond the physical and chronological actions we take to produce a creative work, there are more existential requirements that shape and drive it.
I’m hoping that by naming these elements of the creative process, I can help both myself and others better understand what we need to thrive in our work. It is in the absence of these elements that I feel we struggle most. In this sense, the elements of the creative process are the reasons for the creative process, why we need a process in the first place.
I will try again on Monday! Meanwhile, it is the weekend, and here at the Froese household, we are getting our first backyard chickens! I’m expecting some good metaphors and bad puns to come out of this new adventure.
